- Description
- Length of cloth purporting to represent a trail that Crowfoot went to get his horses. Made with British trade cloth, cotton thread and ribbon.
This item has been seen and commented on by visiting members of the Blackfoot tribes in 2013.
Born in East Budleigh to a boatman and a lacemaker, Edgar Dewdney grew up in poverty. Broke, he reinvented himself and travelled to Canada in 1859 to find his fortune. Initially working as a surveyor, in 1872 he became a Member of Parliament; an Indian Commissioner in 1879; Lieutenant Governor of the North-West Territories 1878 – 88; and Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia until 1897.
