Albumen Print attributed to Thomas Mitchell. Image shows the HMS Alert stuck in the ice pack in Cape Rawson, Canada, during the winter of 1876. A line in the negative emulsion extends from the bottom-right corner. Taken during the British Arctic Expedition of 1875-1876, led by Captain George Strong Nares.
