- Lip plug made of whalebone;Haida. Haida bone labrets were a piece of adornment that was worn by high status women. Labrets increased in size as the woman got older, some had abalone inlays attach to them and would have never been sold or traded. They were a symbol of a woman’s status within Haida Society. Labrets were also made from stone and wood (usually Yew wood).
