black velvet, embroidered in coloured glass beads 'lazy squaw beadwork', black moire ribbon handles
History of Use
2 pieces of velvet with sloped sides and curved bases, a trapezium shaped flap on each side; side and bottom edges bound with red cotton over the seams, the bottom edge with loops of alternate yellow and tan beads; top edge bound with moire with 2 long loops (possibly to go over a waistbelt); flaps edged with white beads; 2 rows of white beads inside the edges; flowers in 2 shades of blue, pink and tomato red; green stalks with white spines, leaves of clear and white, and clear and opaque yellow; hammered metal (perhaps tin) sequins attached by beads; both sides alike, but flowers on flaps on a larger scale lining: pink cotton sateen
